PEACEBUILDING, ROLE OF WOMEN AND CONFLICT PREVENTION IN CONFLICT ZONES

Annual conference for social activists, leaders and experts who work with gender issues and peacebuilding had been initiated by a Yerevan-based non-profit organization Democracy Today 6 years ago in Yerevan, Armenia.

Every conference has thematic panel discussions and master classes with participation of experts and volunteers from Armenia, Georgia, Ukraine, Turkey, Syria and from the Russian North Caucasus.

Main issues and questions of discussion:

  • Wars, conflicts, terrorism, fragile peace, and influence of these processes on women;
  • Conflict regions and possibilities of peacebuilding activity;
  • United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) on Women, Peace and Security: potentiality of implementation. What laws and mechanisms protect women in conflict zones.

Conference ends with an award ceremony «Peace Prize for Young Women of the Caucasus», founded by an initiative of non-profit organizations of the South Caucasus, «Women of the South Caucasus for Peace and Prosperity. Peace Starts from Your House».

In 2017 the conference entitled «Finding New Ways of Response to New Challenges. Ways to Peace and Histories of Women Peacebuilders» is planned for 7-9 June.
